Overview
The Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) is the primary professional dentistry degree in India. It prepares students to understand oral health, diagnose dental conditions and develop supervised clinical skills across preventive, restorative and surgical dental care.
What students study
Study commonly includes anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, dental materials, oral anatomy, pathology, microbiology, pharmacology, public health dentistry, periodontics, prosthodontics, conservative dentistry, oral surgery, orthodontics and paediatric dentistry. Pre-clinical laboratories and progressive patient care are essential parts of training.
Duration and study options
BDS is a full-time professional programme generally comprising four academic years followed by a one-year rotating internship under the applicable regulations. Eligibility and admission
Applicants must meet the notified Class 12 or equivalent requirements for physics, chemistry, biology or biotechnology, English, marks, age and other conditions applicable to dental admission. Career and further study
