Master of Physiotherapy (MPT)

Explore MPT in India: specialisations, duration, eligibility, admissions, clinical training, research and careers.

Overview

The Master of Physiotherapy (MPT) is a postgraduate allied-health degree for deeper clinical and research training in areas such as musculoskeletal, neurological, cardiopulmonary, sports, paediatric, community or women’s-health physiotherapy.

What students study

Students take advanced assessment and intervention, evidence-based practice, biomechanics, research methods, statistics and speciality modules. Supervised clinical postings, case presentations, seminars and a dissertation are common. The quality of patient exposure and mentorship matters more than a broad specialisation label alone.

Duration and study options

MPT is generally a two-year full-time programme. Verify university and programme recognition where applicable, speciality-specific clinical affiliations, faculty caseload, laboratory or rehabilitation equipment, dissertation support, internship expectations and registration implications.

Eligibility and admission

Applicants normally need a recognised BPT degree, completed internship where required, the specified marks and any registration or experience conditions in the prospectus. Selection may use qualifying-degree merit, university or state entrance tests, interviews, counselling and other published criteria.

Career and further study

Graduates work in specialist rehabilitation, hospitals, clinics, sports, community programmes, teaching support, research and service coordination, subject to professional and employer rules. Options include PhD, clinical fellowships, sports or rehabilitation science, public health, hospital administration and advanced research training.
