Overview
The Bachelor of Siddha Medicine and Surgery (BSMS) is the recognised undergraduate professional degree in the Siddha system of medicine. AISHE contains a spelling variation, but students should look for the current BSMS award and regulator-approved institution.
What students study
Students study Siddha principles, Tamil terminology and classical material alongside anatomy, physiology, pathology, medicinal substances, diagnosis, preventive health, medicine, surgery-related subjects and clinical care. Pharmacy, herbal and hospital experience support practice.
Duration and study options
BSMS is generally five and a half years full time, including a one-year compulsory rotating internship. Verify current NCISM recognition, teaching language, attached hospital, patient exposure, pharmacy, internship rotations and registration eligibility.
Eligibility and admission
Applicants must meet the notified Class 12 science-subject, marks, age, language and other conditions for the admission year. Admission uses NEET-UG and the applicable AYUSH counselling process under official notices.
Career and further study
After internship and registration, graduates work in recognised Siddha practice, hospitals, public services, research, education support and medicine production under applicable rules. Options include postgraduate Siddha specialities, public health, research and healthcare management.
