Overview
The Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery (BUMS) is the recognised undergraduate professional degree in the Unani system of medicine. It combines Unani principles and classical knowledge with biomedical sciences, diagnostics and clinical training.
What students study
Study commonly includes Unani foundations, terminology, anatomy, physiology, pathology, materia medica, pharmacology, preventive medicine, diagnosis, internal medicine, surgery-related subjects and clinical practice. Teaching-language requirements and preparatory language provisions can vary.
Duration and study options
BUMS is generally five and a half years full time, including a one-year compulsory rotating internship. Verify current NCISM recognition, teaching language, attached hospital, pharmacy, patient exposure, internship rotations and registration eligibility.
Eligibility and admission
Applicants must meet current Class 12 science-subject, marks, age, language and other notified conditions for undergraduate AYUSH admission. Admission uses NEET-UG and the relevant AYUSH counselling process under current notices.
Career and further study
After internship and registration, graduates work in recognised Unani practice, hospitals, public programmes, pharmaceuticals, research and education support according to professional rules. Options include postgraduate Unani specialities, public health, research and healthcare administration.
