Overview
The Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) is the recognised undergraduate professional degree in Ayurveda. The formal award may use Ayurvedacharya, and training combines classical knowledge with contemporary biomedical and clinical subjects.
What students study
Students study Sanskrit or terminology, Ayurvedic principles, classical texts, anatomy, physiology, pathology, diagnosis, medicinal plants, pharmacology, preventive health, internal medicine and surgery-related disciplines. Pharmacy work, hospital postings and clinical case learning are essential.
Duration and study options
BAMS is five and a half years full time, comprising four and a half years of study and a one-year compulsory rotating internship. Verify current NCISM recognition, hospital and patient load, pharmacy, herbal garden, internship rotations and registration eligibility.
Eligibility and admission
Applicants must meet current Class 12 requirements for physics, chemistry, biology or biotechnology, marks, age and other notified AYUSH conditions. Admission is through NEET-UG and the relevant AYUSH counselling process; use official seat and fee information.
Career and further study
After internship and registration, graduates work in recognised Ayurveda practice, hospitals, public programmes, wellness, pharmaceuticals, research and education support under applicable rules. Options include MD or MS Ayurveda specialities, public health, research and healthcare management.
