Overview
The Bachelor of Engineering (BE) is a four-year undergraduate engineering degree offered across branches such as civil, mechanical, electrical, electronics, computer, chemical and related fields. In employment and higher study it is commonly considered alongside BTech, but curricula vary by university.
What students study
Students begin with mathematics, science, computing, engineering drawing and basic workshops before branch-specific theory, laboratories and design. Team projects, internships and a final-year capstone are common. Compare branch depth, facilities and recent project work rather than relying on BE versus BTech naming.
Duration and study options
A regular BE is generally four years full time. Approved lateral-entry routes may exist for eligible diploma holders. Verify programme approval or accreditation where applicable, laboratories, faculty, internships, industry links and current academic regulations.
Eligibility and admission
Applicants generally need Class 12 or equivalent with physics and mathematics plus the additional subject and marks conditions specified for engineering admission. Selection may use JEE Main, state or university engineering examinations, qualifying marks and counselling.

Graduates enter engineering, software, manufacturing, infrastructure, operations, design, testing, consulting and analytical roles aligned with their branch. Options include ME, MTech, MS, MBA, specialist certification, research and GATE-linked routes.
